BDS

In the BDS I shoot several pistol events. Similar names are not the same rules: Steel Challenge, Speed Steel and Speed shooting are separate formats. The BVA-approved sport regulations and current discipline sheets are authoritative.

Steel Challenge

German Steel Challenge (BDS Sportordnung Part SC, approved 15 October 2025) is a timed steel event. You shoot a pistol at steel plates that stay standing. The score is time, not a ring count.

Firearm, division and stage layout follow Part SC and the current discipline sheet. Plates and distances change from stage to stage.

No single stage plan is presented as universal. Part SC and the discipline sheet govern.

Speed Steel

Speed Steel (Part SP, approved 12 October 2023) is a separate BDS format. It is not Steel Challenge and not 25 m Speed shooting. Layouts are more variable. Depending on the match, time or head-to-head comparison counts.

No fixed distance/time table, because the stages depend on the event.

Speed shooting

25 m Speed shooting is part of the BDS pistol standard programme (Part K, K 6). It is neither Steel Challenge nor Speed Steel.

Five BDS Speed targets at 25 metres. One shot per target per string, left to right or right to left. Inner 10, outer ring 7.

State championships: 4 strings of 5. German championship: 6 strings of 5. One minute maximum per string. Score is rings minus time in seconds.

Multi-distance

Multi-distance (Part K, K 4) combines 20 scoring shots of skill fire and 20 of a field course, 40 shots on the BDS pistol target. It is not a Bianchi Cup copy.

Skill: four standing strings of 5 on one target. Course: four strings of 5 on four targets, timed with a timer. A holster is required.

25 m precision

25 m precision (Part K, K 3) scores 20 shots on the BDS pistol target. It is the precision part of 25 m shooting, without interval or timed strings.

Two strings of 10 in 5 minutes each, standing free. Sighting shots in 3 minutes are allowed beforehand.

25 m combination

25 m combination (Part K, K 3) is 40 scoring shots: 20 precision, 10 interval and 10 timed. It is not pure precision and not Speed shooting.

Interval: target faces five times for 3 seconds, 7 seconds away, one shot per exposure. Timed strings: 5 shots in 20 seconds, then 5 in 10 seconds. Time is run with a turning target or with Fire/Stop or an acoustic signal.
